LAUREL Project

Previous research from our lab has demonstrated that negative experiences in childhood, such as physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, significantly increase the risk for later experiences of sexual or physical assault in adulthood—a phenomenon known as revictimization. The LAUREL project is dedicated to deepening our understanding of how various forms of childhood maltreatment contribute to this cycle of revictimization across individual, relational, and societal systems.

Our research team is committed to employing robust empirical methods to investigate such links between early trauma and subsequent life outcomes. We hope this research will provide a deeper understanding of revictimization patterns and, ultimately, reveal strategies that could effectively reduce such risks.
